Governors

Welcome to the Governors' section!

St Mary’s C of E Infant School has a Governing Body that makes decisions about how our school is run. The Governors meet at least twice a term, and publish an annual School profile covering our progress, priorities and performance.

Our Voluntary Aided Status means we are owned by the Church of England, and largely financed by the local authority. The Governors employ staff and control pupil admissions and religious education. In order to maintain the privilege of delivering the whole curriculum amid a distinctive Christian ethos, Voluntary Aided – otherwise known as ‘Foundation Governors’ – are responsible for finding a financial contribution towards the improvement and repair of the school premises.

The 14 people who make up our Governing Body are drawn from several areas:

  • The Church

Seven Foundation Governors are appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education after consultation with St Mary’s Parochial Church Council. The Vicar of the Parish of Prestbury and All Saints is also an ex-officio member of the Governing Body.

The Foundation Governors are: Rosie Dodd, Fiona Hall, Miriam Barnes, Mary Turner, Jane Turner, Caroline Sexton and Alan Philpott.

  • Parents

Two governors are elected by the parents. These are Anjie Winter and Jo Maloney.

  • Staff

A teacher governor is elected by, and from among the teachers at the school, and a support staff governor is elected by and from among our support staff. The Headteacher is also a governor.

The Staff Governors are Suzanne Dobson (Teacher) and Jane Harvey (Support Staff)

  • Local Authority

One governor is appointed by the Local Authority. This is Paul Wakeman.

The Governors are extremely approachable and more than happy to talk to parents about matters relating to the management of the school.
